New Google Maps Feature Helps Users Cut Down on Fuel Expenses

Google Maps has become the de facto navigation app for most people. It is able to perform a wide range of tasks, such as using Google Street View to search for a location before visiting, verifying the location is tight, and of course, adjusting the navigation. Google continues to add new features to this already functional experience, making the app even more enjoyable to use.

The search giant is now developing a feature that allows users to save fuel. s As noticed by the Times of India, this feature was previously only available in the US, Europe and Canada, but is now rolling out in India as well.

How Google Maps helps you save fuel

Called eco-friendly routing, this feature works by showing users fuel or energy efficiency ratings on specific routes, taking into account the vehicle’s engine type. Additionally, when this feature is enabled, Google notes that in addition to recommending you the best routes that avoid traffic and road conditions, it now also takes into account fuel or energy efficiency.

So you get two routes: the fastest and the most fuel-efficient, and they are not necessarily the same. If you choose to disable this feature, Google Maps will only recommend the fastest route, ignoring the fuel/energy efficient option.

How to enable this feature

Open the Google Maps application on your mobile device. Tap your profile picture or name > Settings > Navigation Settings. Now scroll to Route Options. Tap Favor fuel-efficient routes to enable or disable eco-friendly routing. And to select engine type, tap Engine Type. Select Engine Type > tap Done.

If you have a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, you can choose between gas (petrol) or diesel. If you have a hybrid car, choose hybrid, or if you have an electric car, choose electric.

Google also points out that fuel efficiency depends on the energy consumption of vehicles in your area, the steepness of the hills on the route, stop-and-go traffic patterns and road types.

We are tired of using this feature, but it is not available yet. It is possible that this will be rolled out gradually, which means that not all users may receive it at the same time.
